Alexander Zakharchenko: The one guided by moral principles to win civil war

Today, on November 15, the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic, Alexander Zakharchenko, discussed with Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin the exchange of prisoners.

"Considering the issue of exchanging prisoners, I agree with the position of the President of Russia – we must follow the principles of humanity in this concern. The exchange of prisoners should not remain a matter of war and trade. Let me remind you that back in 2014, when hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen surrendered to us, I repeatedly transferred them to parents and wives in exchange for a promise not to return to war. It was already then that we realized that it would be not the one who is stronger on the battlefield to win the civil war – we have proved everything in this sphere, having won several victories over the regular army of Ukraine.

The one will win the civil war who will be guided by moral principles, who will preserve the humanity. The fact that we adhere to moral principles is proved by our respectful treatment of prisoners. And the fact that the Ukrainian authorities and the punitive battalions under their control have long lost their human face is proved by the fact that our comrades are tortured to death. Even within the previous exchanges – and dozens of journalists witnessed that – we returned to Kiev the captives healthy or cured at our expense, full and dressed, and Kiev transferred our comrades to us mutilated and on the verge of death.

Therefore, yes, I supported the initiative of the President of Russia. For the simple reason that it does not contradict either our principles or the Republic’s previous conduct in the issue of prisoners’ exchange," the Head of the DPR said.
