DPR Head congratulates Donbass railwaymen
On Friday, August 4, the Head of the Donetsk People's Republic Alexander Zakharchenko took part in a solemn event dedicated to the Day of the Railway Worker of the DPR.
The event was held in the capital's Centre of Slavic Culture. The official guests also included the Chairman of the DPR People's Council Denis Pushilin, the Minister of Transport of the Republic Igor Andrienko, representatives of various ministries and departments.
Addressing railroad men, Alexander Zakharchenko congratulated them on the professional holiday and noted the great importance and strategic role of the railway in the development of the Republic.
"Dear railwaymen and veterans of the railway! I wholeheartedly congratulate you on the holiday. For any state, the railway is a circulatory system. Unfortunately, our blood system was violated as a result of hostilities. It's Ilovaysk, it's Debaltsevo, it's Donetsk, it's Yasinovataya. But thanks to your work, our railway works. Thanks to your efforts, our Republic lives. Goods are delivered by our railway and it's your merit. You are true patriots. Congratulations!" the Head of State said.
The event continued with a solemn presentation of certificates and commendation to the best workers of the industry. Also winners of the competition of professional skill "Railwaymen's All-around-2017" were awarded. The contest was held within the framework of the humanitarian programme for the reunification of the Donbass people, where railroad workers from territories temporarily controlled by Ukraine also took part in it. Winners of "All-around" received cash prizes. At the end of the solemn part, a festive concert took place.
Talking to representatives of the mass media, Alexander Zakharchenko said that the Donetsk railway is preparing great achievements for a professional holiday.
"Almost 80% of the railway was restored. There are unrestored areas, but this is due either to the proximity of the front line, or to very large disruptions. Most importantly, we managed to retain the greater part of the staff, divided by the demarcation line -people were hired at the maximum. Now it's already a five-day working week. People are guaranteedly and on time receive wages. Taking into account the fact that by the end of the year we plan to increase the work of our enterprises to 80-90%, the traffic volumes will increase several-fold," Alexander Zakharchenko said.
